No, this isn’t about her last album. This is the Taylor Swift Speak Now World Tour Live DVD! There are few entertainers in music that command the attention and respect of not only their peers but also crowds of rabid fans spanning across every generation. Taylor Swift has done this with her recent releases, both with her latest studio album “Speak Now” and the breathtaking Speak Now World Tour Live DVD. Beautifully shot in high definition, Speak Now World Tour Live feels more like you were there than you could possibly imagine. Whether you’re a die-hard country fan or a pop darling, this DVD will move you in ways you have never been moved before. At its core, this DVD is an educational experience for all of us. It kicks off with a documentary styled piece on the singer and the evolution of her career to date, and moves onto an insight into her latest album Speak Now. With three songs from Speak Now (you can listen to them here), the documentary explores this new album, giving fans insight into both how it came together and what went into recording it. Let’s be honest, this is hardly the best documentary to begin with. With barely 10 minutes of runtime and less than a minute of actual filming footage, it’s certainly not the most engaging start. It all goes downhill from there as you soon discover that this is not a documentary, but an outright infomercial for Speak Now. From there the film dabbles into three songs from that album (“Mine,” “Begin Again” and “Ours”). This might be enough for new fans, but for those who know and love her music already, this is an insult. To top it all off the song selection isn’t even the best on the album. Fortunately things start to pick up as we move onto the ‘Speak Now World Tour Live’ section of the DVD. Filmed during two nights at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, this is the main event of this DVD and by far its high point. Taking what was basically a perfect night on stage, the entire show has been brilliantly shot and edited into a nearly flawless performance. In true Taylor fashion, she really uses the stage to its fullest potential, dancing on ladders and across conveyor belts. To add some icing on the cake you get a rather humorous interview between Taylor and a radio DJ following the concert. It’s a shame that this DVD has to be so heavily weighed down by the documentary at the beginning. If it hadn’t been for that I would have rated this more highly, but it just feels unnecessary and only serves as a reminder of how much better it could have been if the documentary was short enough to actually watch in one sitting or even cut out completely. cfa1e77820
